18th May 6.30 - 10pm
Skill level: Beginner
We're excited to introduce our Level 2 Beginner Dressmaking Class. If you're looking to start dressmaking, this is a great class to get you started.
Taking place on one Thursday evening, you'll spend 3.5 hours learning to sew a skirt. Great for spring and summer, we've selected a skirt pattern that can be made to look high fashion yet is incredibly easy to sew.
During the class you will:
Enhance your sewing skills and make a very simple, wearable skirt using Kwik Sew K3794 sewing pattern.
Learn how to use and read a beginner's sewing pattern
Learn how to cut fabric, sew and finish seams, hem as well as insert an elasticated waist.
You don't need a sewing machine or equipment, we have lovely Janome 525s machines (as featured on the Great British Sewing Bee), so you just need to turn up and sew!
What's more we're really excited to offer you a 5% discount at leading ethical fabric supplier Offset Warehouse. We've made our skirt (pictured) in this stunning green and white handwoven ikat fabric. This ikat has been spun, dyed and woven entirely by hand using absolutely no electricity, and has been sourced directly by Offset Warehouse from a small weaving village in Thailand. Therefore, all sales support this weaving community and ensure workers are paid a fair wage. The fabric is 100% cotton and fully biodegradeable.
This class costs £45 and takes place on the following dates:
18th May 2017 (6.30 - 10pm)
A limited number of places remain. Please ensure you read our class policies.
What's included in the class?
Sewing pattern for Kwik Sewn K3794. Equipment such as sewing machine, scissors and tape measure are available to use during the class.
This class is for beginner sewers who can use a sewing machine well enough to sew straight seams. It is the perfect class for beginners that would like to start making their own clothes.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring 1.5 metres of woven cotton fabric (no stretch material or velvet), matching thread and 0.5 metres of 3cm elastic for the waistband. Although pins, scissors and tape measure will be provided for you to borrow, please bring your own if you have them as well as pen and paper to take notes. If you have any questions about fabric or equipment, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The beginner's sewing class takes place at Parkside Community College in Cambridge, CB1 1EH. The college is located right near Drummer Street bus station and there is also parking at the front of the building.
